Why Do I Coach?
I have a passion for teaching, and supporting people to become their "best self". That is my life motto and reflects in my day to day lifestyle. I've been running since, well, I can't remember when.

I ran more competitively for a junior olympics team called Striders when I was an adolescent, and then joined the cross country and track team at Watauga High School. My senior year I placed 2nd in the 2 mile, division 4A in the State of NC. I had the BEST High School Coach, Leigh Wallace, who taught me how to believe in myself and learn to trust the process in order to be my best self. In college, I found success early (MVP FR/SO year in Cross Country), but like many college athletes I was burned out and unmotivated to compete after a couple years. One of the reasons why I decided to walk away from college racing was because I was run over by a car, long story, the summer of my junior year and suffered from fractures in my spine and hip. Being a " race horse" in college I was still asked to race and continue to train despite my desire to rest more and be  kind to my body. So I walked away.

Skip 8 years later. I've graduated. I'm teaching math in Lake Tahoe. I'm free and in love with the Sierra Mountains. In those 8 years I have stayed true to my upbringing... RUNNING HILLS. I routinely ran up a peak everyday for several years, and intermittently jumped in to triathlons, road my road bike, mountain biked, skied, swam in freshwater lakes and fell more and more in love with the mountain endurance lifestyle.

In 2015 I jumped into my first trail ultra, Way Too Cool 50k, and found myself grounded by the trail running community. I had thought this race would be a bucket list check off, but I'm here now in 2019 and have traveled the world because of this trail running sport, met the kindest "tribe" of humans who share in the same passion.

And now... I want to give back to you. I'd be most honored and overjoyed to support you in immersing yourself in trail running training, racing and finding the joy of being your best self in this beautiful life journey.

* I also coach skimo athletes for I do the bulk of my base training on skis during the winter and participate in a few vertical races for speed workouts. My partner Paul Hamilton, avid skimo racer and past world skimo team member, contributes valuable coaching for these athletes.

Coaching Plan for Athletes
I will be using Training Peaks to set up training plans
This is an interface that is a highly successful tool for coach and athlete to communicate. It's a calendar interface where weekly plans are preloaded. You and I will be able to track all of your activities. (This is included in my coaching fee)

Individualize
I will work with you daily, communicating on the Training Peaks platform. Individualizing your plan means that your training plan will support your specific race goals while focusing on your long term growth in the sport.

Training Philosophy
Base Training: The most important phase of training leading into race season. Maximizing aerobic capacity training in Zone 1/2 for several months is key to optimizing performance.

Strength Training: I advise athletes to practice strength training routines to support the load they demand from their body. Phasing in strength during the base training and then maintaining strength through the competitive season.

Speed Work: Phasing in appropriate speed work prior to competition season and then maintaining speed through out race season as well as the off season.

Mobility and Self Care: Recommended self care practices are communicated and emphasized in order to keep the body healthy and operating optimally.
